Leighsa Burgin
Leighsa Burgin has been performing ever since putting on her first tutu and
headdress at age 4. For a while her main performances were behind the make shift
stage curtain attached to her mother’s clothesline. Since then she has been
living out her many dreams, receiving her BFA in Theatre with honors and a minor
in Women’s Studies with highest honors and then traveling the country seeing all
but 5 states in the continental US. Since returning to Boston she has been
performing all over the East Coast; on stage, on screen and for numerous
benefits.
Leighsa returned to the theatrical stage this past winter in the starring role
of Mona in “Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean”. It was just as
rewarding as the title is long. Among her favorite stage credits are Catherine
in “A View from the Bridge”, May in Samuel Becket’s “Footfalls”,
Shelby in
“Steel Magnolias” and the starring role of Alexandria in “She” for which she
received an Irene Ryan Nomination. Leighsa has also been doing improvisational
comedy and sharpening her wit professionally with the traveling dinner theatre
troupe and second family, “The Soprano’s Last Supper” for almost five years now.
One of her most prized accomplishments comes from both co-creating and
co-founding the performance troupe, “All the Kings Men” back in 2002. Being a
performer within ATKM allows her the freedom to create and explore all kinds of
characters she might never be able to perform outside of this troupe. ATKM is
her major passion as well as an intense labour of love. Awarded the coveted
“Best Kept Secret” title by the Boston Phoenix 2005, this drag king performance
art troupe has been thrilling and shocking audiences all over the East Coast for
three years and counting.
Leighsa hopes her future will include a prosperous career in television and
film; she plans on making the move to Los Angeles next fall. Being a true crime
buff as well as the granddaughter of a police chief, she would love to perform
as part of a police or law drama. With these shows being the majority on
television these days, Leighsa hopes she will be fortunate enough to be among
the regular players.
